Our Story
Uma began with a mother, a memory and a love that never really left. The name belongs to the founder’s biological mother, who passed away when she was only nine years old. Years later, when the idea of creating a brand took shape, there was no question about what it should be called. It had to be Uma. Today, that same name lives on through the bags lovingly made with the involvement of her stepmother. In that way, Uma carries something deeply personal — the memory of one mother and the hands of another. And for a Bengali family, the name holds another familiar feeling too: Uma, a name associated with Maa Durga, the mother we welcome home with love every year.
But Uma is not only about where the name came from. It is about what Ma means to us, love, strength, care, belonging and home.
